Yesterday we ran a piece telling how dog owner Glynis Walker had reacted angrily to hearing that no action would be taken against the police and kennels involved in the “care” of her pet dog Kodee who was
returned to her cut, sore, smelling and riddled with worms.

Shockingly, the item reveals that:

Freedom of Information requests show that 1-2 dogs are dying from
illness on average every week while being held within the Met area.

This is hard to absorb.

1 to 2 dogs per week are dying.

How is this being allowed to happen?

What boarding kennel would be able to operate with such a monumental death rate?

This is a state funded animal welfare scandal and it’s going on right under our noses.

Back in December we published Another Dangerous Dogs Act Canine Welfare Scandal: Dogs Continue to Die in “Police Care” and the reality is, dogs will continue to die in police care. This is a BIG problem and it has GOT to stop.

We can start by repeeling the part of the law that is most largely responsible for innocent dogs being seized from their loving owners – that would be Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act. Need more info? Go here >

And second this, we can make a noise and complain about what is happening. Your police work FOR YOU. They are paid by you to protect you. Their recent efforts in respect of seizure of dogs based on their appearance isn’t protecting you, the facts speak for themselves – dog attacks have risen since the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act was introduced and we’ve seen 4 tragic deaths in the UK since 2006 which the police were unable to prevent as they were, as 99.9% of dog attacks are, the result of owner negligence and lack of dog ownership responsibility.

How many people and how many dogs have to die before the powers that be wake up and realise they have royally screwed up over dangerous dogs?

Did you know, there are people and companies who are PROFITING from the over zealous seizure of dogs that have NEVER acted dangerously in their lives?

Put yourself in the shoes of someone who has had their much loved dog ripped away from them because some unqualified, ‘trained’ up in less than an afternoon operative happens to think your dog looks a certain way. You’d hardly sleep, eat or rest not knowing what was happening. You’d be praying that you got your dog back. Now let’s imagine you hear from the police that your dog is now very ill or very dead, despite the fact it was living a happy, healthy life just days earlier. This is happening right now. Get angry about folks, please get angry.

Write to your MP, contact your local police force and demand to know what policies they have in place for the care and wellbeing of dogs in their care. Make a noise, let people know that this is a scandal that has to stop. Speak up about this horrendous state funded cruelty. We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers. Don’t make me laugh! How can we be when our own government is up to its neck in such an unforgivable animal welfare scandal?

Its a shocking situation, what the hell is going on with dogs dying and coming out in a state, do they think well it's a 'dangerous dog' it doesn't matter, that's what it looks like to me, it's about time someone was brought before the courts for this and i'm writing to my MP tonight to ask questions

Ryan, rightly you comment that the police work for us, but really the police are above the law they are supposed to uphold. We live in a police state if your a dog owner with a dog that may excite a Metropolitan Police person to seize it due to its alleged type or on the basis of its looks and hold it for months in their minging kennels. Perhaps the Met Police can call their DD kennels Guantanamo 2.

I have also heard via petparliament.com that Animal Wardens ltd is responsible for identifying Dangerous dogs. The notorious untrained dog warden service that is also state funded and responsible for shipping unwanted dogs up north to be Murdered, Anyone know anything about this?

How the heck is that possible, these contractors do not have the legal authority or the skills to ID such dogs. Yet again the name Animal Wardens Ltd rears its ugly head. If some police forces employ Dog Legislation Officers who after an intensive course lasting a couple of weeks are the ones who make the call regarding whether a dog is seized, I truly hope the areas where this crew operate are DLO led and they are not making the calls themselves. If they are, they are truly out of control and are running amok acting outside the law. Whatever police forces allow them to do this work, you really do need to reign the dangerous idiots in!

The death of one dog whilst held would be a cause for independent investigation, but one to two dogs on average per week dying from illness is a scandal. What a disgrace and where are the national organisaions when it comes to standing up for dogs, forget the title 'dangerous dog' a dog is a dog, it deserves to receive proper care and attention not be locked up in a sub standard kennels and forgotten about.

Your dealing with the establishment, the RSPCA and others are not going to give the police a hard time especially the Metropolitan Police, who would help them with their obsession with 'hoody dogs'. c Wonder what would happen if 'hoodies' suddenly changed from SBT type dogs and started daring to take their dogs for a walk and they had Poodles or Lhasa Apso's, would certain London councils, the RSPCA and the Metropolitan Police have all these initiatives set up?

Perthaps all these organsiations are practising BSL-discrimination, what do I know?
