No Action to be Taken in DDA Welfare Scandal
London dog owner Glynis Walker has told of her anger at finding out no action will be taken against police and kennels involved in the “care” of her pet dog Kodee who was returned to her cut, sore, smelling and riddled with worms.
Ms Walker made an official complaint following the return of her dog he spent nearly 4 months in secure kennels as a banned “pit bull type”. She was so horrified by the condition of her dog she took pictures showing the cuts to his muzzle, worm infested faeces, sore scrotum and oversized and sore tattoo.
More than one year after the return of her dog and complaining to the RSPCA, Ms Walker received a copy of a memo between the RSPCA and the Met police. The memo was sent from the RSPCA to the Met police but Ms Walker was not told of the outcome until three months AFTER the police had received the memo.
The memo stated that the RSPCA had finished their investigation and found that the complaints of unnecessary suffering are ” unfounded”. Ms Walker is also angry that the memo from the RSPCA she has received states she agreed with this conclusion.
Ms Walker said “Why on earth would I agree the complaints are unfounded when I have been fighting on Kodees behalf for the last 15 months? Kodee came home cut, sore and it should be clear to anyone that this is not acceptable. Had I caused or allowed those injuries I would expect to be charged but it seems to be one rule for dog owners and another for the police and kennels holding our dogs. I am very unhappy and intend to take this further.”
In a bid to prevent similar happening to other dogs Ms Walker made an official complaint to the RSPCA and started a Facebook group “cruelty to dogs in police care” which now has almost 2000 members. Welfare of dogs particularly within the London area has been of grave concern for some time as dogs continue to come home underweight, smelling and with “extreme” tattoos. Freedom of Information requests show that 1-2 dogs are dying from illness on average every week while being held within the Met area.
Alison, good article, only unshocking thing here is that did we really expect the RSPCA to go after the Met Police? These two organisations work hand in glove against 'type' dogs and have done so for years.
Check out the historical record, one of the major RSPCA players was Mr Eachus, not sure of his present pseudo-rank, but he worked with the police raiding dog owners houses to seize dogs and assisting with the prosecuting of dog owners.
What is Mr Eachus up to now……thats right he is involved with the forthcoming RSPCA 'status dogs' summit involving the RSPCA's friends the Met Police.
No change there then?
What a disgrace.. When will the RSPCA get their act together.. working for the protection of animals my arse..
If they intend to do what they claim to be about then yes we should expect them to act. However it is unsurprising to see they havent. Sadly these things just go to show what a farce it all is. Every time we hear of this happening we shall let people know and hopefully they too will get angry.
This is horrific! Just because i dog is deemed 'type' doesnt mean it's any less than someone's pet. People need to be educated about these animals. They get scared in the same ways that a yorkshire terrier does.
and a seized dog feels the same amount of stress and pain as any other dog would, why is the skin split open over kodee's tattoo on is leg, what did they use a hammer and chisel? Why did he stink so bad? Why was he sick when he got returned and up comes piles of worms? Why was his pads stained yellow? If I put my dog in a boarding kennels and he came out like that…..
this is disgusting i wonder if the met treat their own agressive police dogs in this way probably not because their not of the so called type owning a bullmastiff cross english bullterrier myself i am glad that i don't live in london though if i get a job in town i'll have to move up there so it is quite worrying
Well done owner Glynis for following through with a complaint over the past year, not an easy task when you feel like you're banging your head on a brick wall after your dog has come home with dents in the top of is head, is bleeding, sore, smells like he has been lying in his own faeces for weeks and has a tattoo leaving him branded looking like something out the dark ages.
just goes to show what there really like hey!justice for dogs
This is my dog Kodee and Jan Eachas was the RSPCA inspector involved in this case, I am sure the people on this site who have seen Kodees picures will agree he does not look like he has been looked after. I am at present making a complaint against this Inspector. As one of my members on my facebook site called (Cruelty To Dogs In Police Care) said it should be called THE PREVENTION OF THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
This is so true, anyone can see Kodee was abused… Over 2000 members on my site cant be wrong, so therefore the RSPCA and the Met Police must be….
An article by Peter Wedderburn of the Telegraph has mentioned my group in an article he wrote in The Telegraph called "Dangerous legislation for family dogs plesae read it.
I would like to thank Allie Green (DDA Watch) and Amanda Dunkley (Endangered Dogs) for all their help with my Kodee..
THANK YOU
r s p c a if they spent more time lookin into these sort of cases and gettin results , more people would support them instead of brushing things like this under the carpet ,all they seem to bang on about is donations ..
