Pamela Anderson, former Baywatch star and Hollywood’s sweetheart has called for stray dogs in India’s Mumbai to be sterilised rather than killed.
The BBC website reported that Ms Anderson was soon to react after hearing from PETA how Mumbai’s High Court have said stray dogs in the city should be killed and are considered a ”nuisance” to the public.
Ms Anderson, a famous animal lover and PETA spokeswoman has reportedly sent a letter to Mumbai city authorities, in which she wrote.
”Dogs cannot use condoms, but… they can be fixed painlessly, quickly and permanently.”
”It is well established that killing stray dogs is not a permanent solution to controlling their populations…mass sterilisation of stray animals is the most viable solution to nuisance and health concerns in addition to being more humane.”
This letter is in reference to studies conducted by the Animal Welfare Board of India and the World Health Organisation.
The BBC reports how animal rights activists have said there may be as many as 70,000 stray dogs living in Mumbai alone. If this High Court ruling goes ahead then all of these animals will be culled.
The BBC spoke to people on the streets of Mumbai:
”Ethically it may not be right to kill dogs but who is Pamela Anderson to get involve in Mumbai’s issues,” Said Sales Manager Shubhada Surve.
One of the main problems in the city is stray dogs attacking cyclists.
”Maybe killing is not the best way but stray dogs are a menace…the way they suddenly pounce on bike riders is dangerous. Something has to be done to get them off the roads.” said Samir Guliyani a medical professional.

Ha! Hypocrites are us!
This coming from PETA would be a joke if it wasn't so sad.
It is great that Pamela Anderson still looks attractive as a mother of 2 kids. She is my favorite and I like her so much.
I admire Pamela’s tenacity. She was criticised by two people (the only two comments ) on the telegraph article, but as an advocate and helper of stray dogs in Brazil I would like to know what charity do these people subscribe two?. They said she was wrong to help dogs with so much human misery around, but I bet they dont have the courage to support any charity. I get the same thing all the time here in Brazil and when I ask if you are so concerned about human poverty then which charity do you support? They go very quiet because the answer is always the same–none. Well done Pamela for doing something useful. You are fulfilling your obligation as a human. See my website to see how many humans do just that. http://www.janeiro-emmy.blogspot.com
