Battersea Park played host to thousands of dogs and their owners on Sunday, 9th September as Battersea Dogs & Cats Home celebrated its 13th Annual Reunion, a family event full of doggy fun and festivities.

The sun shone over the revelry as hundreds of dogs and owners competed in the many events of the day.  In the Fancy Dress competition, Parker, a Border Collie cross, and his proud owner, seven year old Charlie Ring, fought off tough competition to win the runner up prize with their inventive shepherd and sheep costume, but first prize belonged to Scrappy and Buster the Mongrels, and Missy the Bichon, who made it a family affair dressed up as Peter Andre, Jordan and Princess Tiamii!

Leading the girls was Bonniest Bitch “Sammy”, a stunning tan and white Lurcher owned by Julie MacMahon. The title of Dandiest Dog went to “Moses”, a handsome eight year old black and tan Mongrel, accompanied by young owners James, Bryony and Oliver Relf. Sammy and Moses fought off stiff opposition from nearly 800 entrants to the competitions for their coveted titles.

Kate Ward, Director of Events at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home said: “The 13th Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Annual Reunion was a fantastic success in every way. The sun shone, thousands of ex-Battersea doggy residents and their owners came along and the event raised over £12,500 which will go towards looking after the 11,000 dogs and cats the Home cares for every year. For the staff at Battersea the Annual Reunion is a wonderful and heart warming opportunity to see the dogs they cared for happy with their proud new owners.”

The day also saw performances by the Hawkeye Amazing Birds of Prey team, which provided exciting and dynamic flying demonstrations, and Richard Curtis, one of the UK’s leading heelwork to music dog handlers, who demonstrated the skill, intelligence and rhythm of his dogs in a display of freestyle doggie dancing.
