Resignations at the Cavalier Club as Margaret Carter is Reinstated
January 14, 2009 by Freelance Writers
Following a year of controversy, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club has announced that Margaret Carter will be reinstated on to the committee at the next annual general meeting.
In a statement released on their website, the club announced:
Author DetailsThe Electoral Reform Society yesterday notified our Secretary that it had received only one nomination for the 2009 Committee Elections. That Nominee is Mrs Margaret Carter. There being only one nomination, a ballot of the membership will not be required and, in accordance with the Rules, Mrs Carter will rejoin the Committee at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Mrs Carter will rejoin the Committee having been removed as a committee member at a recent Special General Meeting. I do not wish to continue to serve the club under such circumstances. After much consideration, and with the deepest regret, I have decided to resign the Chairmanship, with effect from the forthcoming AGM.
Our Vice Chairman, Sheena Maclaine, has also resigned for the same reason as myself, with immediate effect. She will, however, continue as Show Manager for the next Championship Show in February. Our Secretary, Annette Jones, has likewise tendered her resignation and this will take effect from the next AGM.

One of my favourite Shakespeare quotes comes to mind to those that have resigned.
"Stand not upon the order of your going but go at once"
Their priorites were not dog focused in any case.

Philippa, nice one!
How about, from 'A Tale of Two Cities':
'It is a far better thing that I do now, than I have ever done before'
Hope it is the correct quote and from the correct novel?
Or even (with apologies to the original):
'Think not what your Breed Club can do for you, think what you can do for your Breed Club'[
Nothing like peace and reconciliation to resolve issues is there!

Have just read in the Times News-Paper here in Britain ,in Margaret Carter's interview with this News- Paper on Friday , said she is to Sever her links with the Breed Club.
Does this mean she no longer wishes to be a member of the Cavalier Breed Club?

That is how I read that piece Bet. But then what Margaret Carter has done is typified the last quote there given to us by Plastic Bookworm. She has put her breed club before her own ambition. This of course sets her well apart from the Jupps and Hulls of this world. She is just one amazing person. I am very pleased to have met her and know her.

To me Margaret Carter done the right thing. Not only are these wonderful animals suffering, but there loving owners to,as they watch them die at such an early age.

I will say again ,Philippa ,you seem to be so unaware of what Mrs L Jupp achieved 20 years ago ,long before Margaret Carter was ever on Cavalier Health Scene.
It was due to Mrs.Jupp's efforts that the Research into the Cavalier MVD Heart Problem began..

But how many breeders were actually taking any notice of the results and recommendations from this research?
Research is pointless unless action is taken. How many breeders just ignore the research saying that it isn't 100% conclusive? As research is rarely 100% conclusive this gives them the window of opportunity to ignore it claiming that they are waiting for the next lot of research. In the meantime breeding from dogs which may now be considered unsuitable by the latest research standards.
You cannot have it both ways - if you want to be congratulated for the research, you also have to be actively pushing all breeders to be following the recommended breeding protocols and scanning their dogs - and taking the flack from those who don't want to risk finding out that their champion may no longer be consider suitable for breeding purposes.

I'm so very pleased to hear that Margaret Carter is back, and glad to farewell to the small-minded committee members who opposed her reinstatement.

How about they form a couple of sub committees whilst they are at it too:
Teddy Out Of The Pram Sub Group and the Moving The Goalposts Scrutiny Group
What a farce, typical middle class/establishment types, dont get what THEY want so they leave, soon as Margaret withdraws, they withdraw their resignations, how is this working for their breed?
Pathetic what a true Dinosaur like committee they seem!
