Following yesterday’s announcement from the Kennel Club outlawing incest for the first time in its history and proposing changes to several breed standards, secretary Caroline Kisko has also revealed the organisation is actively seeking a new broadcast partner for its flagship dog show, Crufts.

Mrs Kisko is quoted in The Telegraph:

“We said in the autumn that a new review standards would be bought out, long before the BBC pulled out of Crufts. As far as we’re concerned, we’re looking for different broadcasters. We’re currently under BBC contract, whether they choose to broadcast for the next year or not.”

The BBC themselves were not so sure of Crufts leaving its schedules though, a spokesman saying:

“We remain open to the idea that Crufts will return to the BBC and this (changes to breed standards) is an interesting development.”

It is reported elsewhere that legal action has been threatened over the changes to breed standards by The British Bulldog Breed Council.

Nice spin by the KC, of course they were doing all they said BEFORE the BBC decision, hence why the BBC pulled out?

If that is the case, why are they looking for another broadcaster, surely they could have had a meeting and patched things up?

If the KC was a school pupil, they would be sent home with a note that said 'must try harder'

There is a lot of debate about this . Personally I don't think it will make a difference at all. The Kennel Council are fools, this was their chance to make health testing compulsory but instead they change the standard, idiots!!!! Its not going to make our breed any healthier, this unfortunately lies in the hands of the breeders.

Those breeders who are just wanting to line their pockets (there are many) will continue to breed with dogs with entropian, ectropian, luxating patella, breathing problems etc etc regardless of what the standard says. Changing the standard is not the answer to helping our breed.
