This year’s East Anglian Game & Country Fair hosted, ‘in association with the EDP Norfolk Magazine’, promises to have something for the whole family, with a variety of new attractions on offer. The event will be held again, at the Norfolk Showground, on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April 2009.
The show (which attracts over 50,000 visitors) is delighted that the MBS Mountainboarding Team will be joining them for the first time! We eagerly await the pro team displays and our visitors are looking forward to joining in the fun by having a go themselves! This Mountainboard Freestyle display combines the excitement of skateboarding, snowboarding and biking into one new action packed extreme sport.
The MBS Mountainboard Big Air Show is the newest extreme show on the scene, demonstrating on Europe’s only mobile freestyle demo ramp. By employing more of the world’s best riders and compare they offer one of the best family entertainment, shows on earth with riders performing spectacular jumps, spins, flips and rails slides in rapid succession.
We are pleased to announce they have a brand new equine attraction joining them, the ‘Horse Whisperer’, Gary Witheford. It is Gary’s firm belief that “every horse deserves a chance” so that, no matter what problem a horse brings with it, there is always a good possibility of change and the chance of a better life for the horse, and therefore for the owner.
They will be holding 3 demonstrations each day and are accepting enquiries from the general public for horses to be brought to the show and worked by Gary. Please contact us if you would like further information.www.garywitheford.co.uk
The Adams Axemen lumberjack display is a new addition to the show this year; they entertain the audience with an exciting show of strength, skill and rustic humour.
John Bidwell’s Off the Hip Shooting exhibition (he has one the World Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships 5 times) will undoubtedly draw the crowds again this Spring, with his amazing display from an expert shot!
The High Lodge team will also be hosting the Clay shoot area where a 40 bird re-entry competition will take place over the two days with men’s, ladies and junior’s sections, so if you have never had a go at Clay Shooting or would like some tuition from his vastly experienced team then you can also visit one of his instruction stands at the clay shoot area, entry is open to all.
Dock Dogs will make an eagerly awaited return to the show. They originated in the United States and launched their sport in the UK at our Show last April, since its launch DockDogs has received huge success. Combining peoples’ love of competition with the love of their dogs, it is a very accessible sport – anyone with a dog and a ball can join in, hence its fast growth and massive popularity.
The handler throws a ball/toy for the dog that races along a dock or jetty and leaps into a 100ft x 40ft pool with 25,000 gallons of water in to retrieve the toy a sight not to be missed! The dog with the longest jump is the winner, to registrar your dog to enter visit www.dockdogs.co.uk
World Fly Casting Champion sensation Hywel Morgan, who delivers a highly informative and entertaining display, showing his remarkable talent for multi-rod casting, a highlight to any angling enthusiast’s day! The HM Prison Norwich drug dogs will be at the show again doing displays to demonstrate the great work they do in the community. New for 2009 Simon Whitehead & Jim Greenwood will be running the ‘Dog & Ferret’ clinic near the Countryside arena.

Some of the old favourites include, The Tigers Free Fall Parachute Team who will once again take to the skies to amaze visitors as they plummet from an aircraft smoke trailing towards the ground at 120mph. The athletic canine spectacular The Essex Dog Display Team also returns to the showground.
Shepherdess Elaine Hill will be demonstrating the skill and intelligence of her Border Collies with an entertaining and education sheepdog and duck handling display. Ye Olde Retail Falconry display brings the ancient art of falconry to the modern age with a comprehensive and thrilling presentation guaranteed to entertain the audience, suitable for all ages, everyone will love it and want to be involved. There will be Horse Logging Displays, Pigeon Decoying, and the hilarious and extremely popular Sheep Show.
For those who would like a front row seat whilst watching spectacular displays in the main arena, why not join up as a member of the show? Our new Food Village will be housing the Cookery Theatre this year, which will be hosted by the very prestigious Norfolk cook and food writer Mary Kemp. The star studded line up includes Chris Coubrough- ITV’s Coastal Kitchens & Proprietor of the Crown Hotel, Wells, Franck Pontais – Celebrity Chef & Author, Food Creation Ltd, Richard Hughes – The Lavender House, Steve Thorpe – Head of the Hotel School at City College, Andy Parle – Freelance Chef & catering consultant, John Kenny of Happy Hogs and Winner of ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish, Aaron Smith & Rachid Zaouia of the Hoste Arms, Burnham Market and Tim Abbott, Head Chef at The Pigs, Edgefield.
The show offers an array of competitions and ‘have a go’ areas to take part in for all the family from Clay Shooting, Hunter’s Landrover 4×4 course and Archery to Gun Dog Scurrys and Cast a Line with the Salmon & Trout Association. The forestry Area will be hosting the ‘2009 Open East of England Cutters & Climbers Competition’ (entry forms can be found on our website www.ukgamefair.co.uk) and also new for 2009 a Pole Climbing Competition.
For toddlers and youngsters alike there are fascinating animals to meet in the ‘Animal Area’, Reindeers, Rabbits, Goats, Alpacas, Horses and Tortoises. Have a go at riding a donkey, holding birds of prey, racing a ferret or watching a sheep being sheared. For those slightly older there will be The ‘Little Rovers’ course, climbing walls, mountain boarding, bungee trampolines, slides and simulators as well as the Junior Clay shooting Competition.
For man’s best friend we have the Gun Dog Scurry with the Mid Norfolk Gun Dog Club, Dog Agility and Jumping competitions and ‘have a go’ arenas, enter your pet into the Pet Dog Show or the ever popular Terrier racing (open to all breeds) and the ever popular Terrier & Lurcher Show on the Sunday starting at 11am. This will be a qualifier for all major championships as well as their own East Anglian Championship and Large Keep Trophies for winners on the day.
We have over 300 trade stands to browse, plus a genuine craft marquee and a mouth watering food village.
