Police to Face no Punishment for Dog Who Nearly Died in Their Care
It has been announced that Police who nearly allowed a dog in their care to die with no food or water will not face prosectution for animal cruelty.
The RSPCA have conceded they are unable to prove whether the dog suffered whilst under the supervision of Police at Bury st Edmunds, Suffolk.
This is the second such case of dog being neglected whilst under Police possession.
Previously a dog died while in the care of Lothian and Borders Police who had to hold an enquiry to find out who was at fault when a Greyhound under their supervision starved to death due to an admin error.
No prosecutions followed the Lothian and Borders case either.

The RSPCA or the SSPCA are not going to bring a cruelty case against the police are they! Who would back them up when they need to get into an animal owners house to remove animals or to look for signs of animal cruelty? Maybe if it had been a council they may have brought a prosecution, but then again the RSPCA need to tread carefully as councils have power of entry under the new Animal Welfare Act and the RSPCA does not, they also need the councils on side now. End of the day, the police station commander should have been prosecuted/disciplined for this appalling welfare issue as the senior officer responsible for the shift/station. If they do not know what is going on in their own station, what is the point of them being there in the first place!
