Actress Defends Dog Fighter Michael Vick
Posted By Ryan O'Meara Date: 5/09 Posted Under: Animal Cruelty, Animal Welfare, Social Issues, View From The EditorUS actress Whoopi Goldberg has publicly put forward a view that dog fighter Michael Vick may have turned to the ’sport’ due to his ‘cultrual upbringing’
The star of films such as Sister Act and Ghost, speaking on US chat show ‘The View’ had this to say:
“He’s from the South, from the Deep South … This is part of his cultural upbringing,”
“For a lot of people, dogs are sport,” Goldberg said on the show. “Instead of just saying (Vick) is a beast and he’s a monster, this is a kid who comes from a culture where this is not questioned.”
Whoopi, hate to say this but you couldn’t be more wrong.
Michael Vick executed dogs, profited from them and enjoyed watching them fight to the death.
I for one am more than happy to ignore your advice and call him a monster.
I couldn’t care less what his upbringing was and taking that logic to it’s natural conclusion is very, very risky ground if we are to excuse people for cruel, criminal acts because ‘it’s part of their culture and upbringing’. Shame on you Ms Goldberg.
