my two staffs are both rescue dogs though only my boy was from a rehoming centre and in the morning he starts to bark early to get me up and when i come down stairs he looks terrified untill he realises that he is not going to get hit and then he runs to the door at the bottom of the stairs and starts to give off funny little noises hoping that i am going to let him go up stairs to my hubby and then he is a very happy dog and no longer terrified so he goes from being very pessimistic to being very optimistic

dogs do feel jealousy my big staffie boy is very jealous of my little girl staffie and vice versa if my little one comes for a stroke he barges her out of the way he even head butts her when she comes back and when he comes for a stroke she runs under his belly to get to me before him and when i give them leather chews my little one is always waiting for him to leave his if only for a second or two so she can pinch it and take it to her bed and then she guards it as if it its a gold bar i think when you have more than one dog you tend to notice rival jealousy more

It's my feeling that dogs do get jealous. I've seen it happen many many times where there wasn't any other logical explanation to fit the situation. I've seen dogs get jealous over food, over attention, over new pets, visitors, etc.

I have to disagree. My dogs get jealous! They are both jealous if we pay too much attention to the cat. Also if one dog gets on my lap, the other either finds someone else to pet her, or she tries to get on my lap.

And in response to guilt. Well, if I come home and there are no dogs to greet me, I know they did something wrong and they are both under my bed. Sometimes I can't even find what they think they did.

OH DOgs do get jealous. Explain why my friends dog gets mad if you pay attention to much to the other dog that lives there. xD Or even, he starts barking or whining if you stop petting him and pet the other dog. xD He even shoves the other dog outta the way sometimes, and he gets upset if he sees you petting the other dog and not him. xD

I don't know whether they can get jealous, however I do think that the experiment was insufficient to prove it. My dog will cease to do an action if she thinks that there is no reward, regardless of whether another dog is present or not. It doesn't prove anything.

I really don't think that dogs are able to get jealous. Not in that way human beings could be.
