Kevin Sacre and Sven the English Bull Terrier were pronounced winners of The Underdog Show in a nail biting finish.

Kevin of Hollyoaks fame, went head to head with fellow celebrity Brian Blessed and canine partner Dougal the Pointer in last night’s finale, which included a dog agility round followed by a doggy dancing exercise.

Love interest Camilla Dallerup of Strictly Come Dancing was the first to plant a congratulatory kiss on the winner Kevin, who exclaimed: “’Finishing the competition and owning such a clever and amazing dog like Sven is fantastic, but to actually win the show and find a girlfriend in the process just added the icing to the cake. Who says dogs can’t play cupid!?”

Clarissa Baldwin Chief Executive Dogs Trust explains: “Unlike his namesake, Sven didn’t have a clue about football however he had an insatiable appetite for learning new tricks and dog agility. The pair made the ideal training duo with Sven being a real credit to Dogs Trust. Sven is the ultimate underdog champion and his win clearly shows what rescue dogs can achieve with the right sort of dog training and human bonding.”

The real winners are the rescue dogs themselves, which all came from Dogs Trust West London (Harefield), the UK’s leading dog welfare charity. All the dogs featured in the TV show have since found new loving homes.

Since winning the competition, and because of the bond that exists between them, Kevin has also decided to keep Sven and continue with his training.

The ten celebrities and their canine chums that took part in the TV show took a six-week crash course in doggy discipline focusing on dog agility and heel work to music. All of the dogs featured in the show, including finalists Sven and Dougal, were carefully selected by Dogs Trust based on their aptitude for learning and obedience.
