Kennel Club ‘Deeply Concerned’ About Conditions of Accredited Breeder’s Dogs
December 4, 2008 by Freelance Writers
The Kennel Club has spoken out about their deep concern following the discovery of 100 St Bernard dogs belonging to one their founder Accredited Breeder Scheme members.
The dogs were found abandoned at a kennels in Northamptonshire.
However there is some confusion about why the dogs were left. Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
In the meantime, K9 Magazine spoke to the Kennel Club and asked them if they felt their much touted Accredited Breeder Scheme had been robust enough in this instance. The Kennel Club told us:
Author DetailsThe Kennel Club is deeply concerned to hear about the alleged conditions that the dogs belonging to Mrs Collis have been found in and her apparent disappearance.
The Kennel Club has only ever received positive feedback about Mrs Collis via the feedback forms returned to us by her many puppy buyers and a routine inspection of her premises by an Accredited Breeder Advisor gave us no cause for concern.
Given the number of dogs on the premises, it would take no time at all for the conditions that the dogs were in to rapidly deteriorate, without somebody being regularly on hand to care for them. The Kennel Club is very concerned about her sudden disappearance and about the effect this has had on the dogs’ welfare.
This is an extra-ordinary situation and in light of the fact that nobody is able to find the breeder in question and that investigations are still ongoing it is difficult for us to comment further on this particular case at this time.
However, the Kennel Club can give assurance that wherever a member’s standards are found wanting investigations are launched and the appropriate action is taken.”
