Pedigree Dogs Exposed Will be Aired Again

December 2, 2008 by Ryan O'Meara

Well, aired for the first time if you happen to live in Canada.

The opportunity to write a headline which I know for certain would have sent a selection of some folks bottoms into spasmodic twitching frenzies at the thought of this award shortlisted documentary being given another UK airing was too much of a temptation to resist.

So, at the risk of sounding ‘biased’ or one sided - Pedigree Dogs Exposed: CBC, Monday Dec 8th, 22.00hrs - well, well worth an hour of your time Canada.

Hey Ryan: You say well worth an hour of Canadian time. Not worth 30 seconds of my time. Too one sided and I would think in the words of Andy Warhol "all concerned have had their 15 minutes of fame and now some have to live with it the rest of their lives"

    D. Lee, if it is not worth 30 seconds of your time, how much time would you spare to learn about dogs suffering?

Investigative journalism by its very nature presents the side from the investigative angle, the arrogant outdated and pompous Kennel Club had the opportunity to respond but came across like something out of Gosford Park the movie.

They had the opportunity to present their side but failed, what can the programme maker do if the other party is poor at its damage limitation and presentation skills? They boast they are the lead dog organisation in the UK but cannot handle some pressure.

Will Jemima Harrison ,producer of the TV Film be happy now ,the Daily Mail News-Paper mentioned about the Exploding Brains of the Cavalier Breed suffering from Syringomyelia ,a couple of days ago ,this will be the the final nail in the Cavalier Breeds' coffin

Ryan ,you are under a grave Misapprehension in making your above Statement, you have completely the Point I was making.,which was in the TV FILM that the Cavaliers have Large Brains ,There is no SCIENTIFIC Information to prove this .
I was recently told this bt Dr D Marino ,Neurologist, Chief of Staff ,at LIVS ,America,he is ,at the moment Researching Brain Volumn and other Small Breeds at the Moment with the Cavalier Breed

If only Jemima Harrison and the Neurologist had checked their Facts before saying to the Millions watching the TV Film ,that the Cavalier Brains were like getting a Size 10 Foot into a Size 6 Shoe

This is what has Snow-Balled in the Press last week into saying that Cavalier Brains are Exploding.

Do you not believe that Cavalier Rescue Centers will now be being over-whelmed by Cavalier Owners not wanting a Cavalier whose Brains could Explode because of the Press Statement Last Week

Yesterday there were 7 Cavaliers handed into a Rescue Center ,all because of what has Stemmed from the TV Film and the False Information about the Cavaliers having Bigger Brains than any other Small Breed

The Cavalier Breed is now Finished

    Bet Hargreaves .

I don't think I have missed the point. I was responding to your claim that rescues would be 'over-run'. Pedigree Dogs Exposed aired months ago. 5m people saw it and countless others have heard about it, read about it and seen its findings appear in the media - yet rescue centres, quite simply, are not 'over-run' with Cavaliers. It simply hasn't happened.

From another News paper ,Sophie the Cavalier in Question ,has Bolts and Wire in her Head to Keep her Brain from Exploding .

This News-Paper was Published in Britain .

Now that the Press have got their Teeth into the Exploding Brains of the Cavalier Breed ,this will Run and Run ,

It’s the Cavaliers who will suffer , Rescue Centers will be over-run ,

What Cavalier Owner will want to keep a Cavalier with the Risk of this Happening

What Puppy Farmer will want to keep Cavalier Breeding Stock ,when they wont be able to give Cavalier Puppies away .

What a Disaster has been set in Train ,by those who want’ed to Publize the Large Brains of the Cavaliers ,which now turns out ,that there is NO SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION to Prove this Statement

But this is plainly not true. Pedigree Dogs Exposed aired months ago in the UK and rescue centres have NOT become 'over-run' as you state. So it's somewhat ironic if your main complaint is that the documentary was scaremongering if you are doing it yourself.

    I will try again!
In this week's Dog World ,is the mention of a Working Group to be set up as a Result of the Pedigree Dogs Exposed TV Film.

This is the Associate Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare(APGAW)
No doubt because of the Biased Unsubstanciated Information given about the Cavalier Breed,on the TV Film ie, SM Figures ,Cavaliers Brains ,leading onto the Press saying that Cavalier Brains are Exploding etc.

Let no-body be in any doubt ,because of the Millions who saw the TV Film ,because of it ,now believe that the Cavalier Brains are falling out of their Heads ,or Have Exploding Brains .

What damage has been done to the Breed by the TV Film, or was this the intention all along.

Again, you miss my point. It's as simple as can be - you claimed rescues would be 'over-run' as a result of a reaction to the health issues as highlighted by the media. It simply has NOT happened. This is wrong. Pedigree Dogs Exposed was explicit, it showed the problems affecting the breed and brought to public attention the issues that NEEDED to be brought to public attention. It's no good crying 'bias' when what was shown was there for us all to see, we're not all gullible, we're not all idiots, we can reach a decision on an issue without being told that we were all mislead. This is a breed that needs help - and one of its biggest supporters was unceremoniously booted off the CKCS club committee for being brave enough to speak out. The breed is suffering from equally bad PR from some of the misguided folks who have got their priorities wrong. Scaremongering about rescues being 'over-run' when the reality is that they are NOT is not going to help the breed in the slightest.

    Ryan,
I really do think that you could be Gullible,if you have believed all the Exaggerated Claims made on the TV Film about the SM in the Cavalier Breed

Please give me your Scientific Information about it.

YES I agree the Cavalier Breed needs all the help it can get because of all the Unsubstantiated Claims made against it about the SM problem in the Breed ,which has lead to the Press claiming that the Cavaliers' Brains are Exploding

I am not going to get into a discussion about Margaret Carter with you ,neither you nor I know the back-ground to what happened .

I only know she was asked by the UK CKCS CLUB not to appear on the PDE TV FILM which she would'nt accept, and spoke to Millions of TV Viewers about having seen 100's of MRI SCANs .

You claim damage has been done as a result of the documentary. Where's your evidence to support that? And you really musn't fall in to the trap of assuming what I do or don't know.

    Ryan ,

Because there were Claims made that had no Scientific Proof ,IE The SM Figures for the Cavalier Breed being 30%

Dr Blott has said in the CKCS News-Letter recently that the SM Cavalier Figures could be Biased , they were Based on Clinical SM Cases seen by Neurologists.

The mention that the Cavalier had Large Brains ,they were like getting a size 10 Foot into Size 6 Shoe.

There is NO SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION, unless you know differently , there is Reseaech taking place at the moment ,about the Brain Volumn of Cavaliers compared to the Brain Volumn of other Small Breeds

Those claims should have been checked ,

I'll ask again. You claim rescues will be 'over-run'. Where's your proof? This claim is unsubstantiated scaremongering, which is somewhat ironic given the circumstances.
