Troubled dog publications the New York and Hollywood Dog magazines have been accused of ‘misleading’ dog lovers amidst claims they didn’t failed to donate proceeds of revenues to animal shelters despite claiming to do so.
Former staff members have hit out at the dog titles, which have ceased publication, suggesting that all was not well behind the scenes at the publishing company responsible for the two magazines.
Speaking to www.digandscratch.com, former employees at the NY and Hollywood Dog magazines suggested the publisher was not being totally clear about its donation policy:
The New York Dog’s website expired months ago, but TheHollywoodDog.com remains. When you hit the “Subscribe Now!” button, a message comes up: “A portion of all subscription sales goes to no-kill shelters.” Likewise, Gatsby Publishing’s online clothing/merchandise shop at CafePress.com greets visitors with: “A portion of all boutique sales go to no-kill shelters across the U.S.”
Those statements are misleading, the four staffers claim. From time to time the magazines did publish free ads for nonprofits, which may have included no-kill shelters — but, Harris said, “we saw the bank statements and nowhere, that we saw, had he given a cent to an animal charity.”
