Emm
The industry is totally corrupt at every level - it promotes corruption and depends on it for its very existence. The industry is in breech of EU and UK laws but because they are self regulated, they remain a law unto themselves. The government are quite happy to let greyhound racing regulate itself because it would cost them millions of pounds to regulate it and sadly our government chooses to ignore the suffering and abuse for fear of loosing the revenue generated from greyhound racing.

Racing injuries will never be 'rare' because of the track layout. Most injuries occur on the first bend when all greyhounds are at full speed and unable to negotiate a bend AND avoid the other dogs.
It has been estimated that well over 1,500 greyhounds are euthanased at UK tracks annually - this is unacceptable and is one of the many reasons why commercial greyhound racing should be abolished.

if greyhound racing is done properly fatal injuries to the greyhounds are rare. my grandfather has raced greyhounds for 30+ years and has only rarely had to have one of his dogs put down, one a few years ago due to a badly broken leg sustined in a slip on a bend. unfortunately accidents do happen even on the best maintained tracks - although they usually are sustained by poorly maintained dogs. privately owned and trained dogs are generally fitter happier and less prone to injury than those housed in a commercial 'money making' kennel as these poor dogs are little more than a commodity.
If you look at human track atheletes they sustain injuries at a similar rate to racing dogs however unlike humans some dogs just cannot be fixed - in the case of my grandfathers dog he only ever wanted to run so even if it were possible to fix his leg he would have been miserable as a pet, there have been many of his dogs successfully rehomed as pets.

NO i dont see anything wrong with the racing itself, its when people become corrupted by it, prehaps we should have some sort of licence type thing, were the tracks and kennels have tobe inspected regulary or something
