Kennel Club Barking Up Wrong Tree With Obama

The Kennel Club has today extended an invitation to president elect Barack Obama to attend Discover Dogs and meet with the experts on hand before he decides ‘which breed’ to get:

“We have a whole range of experts on hand to talk to prospective puppy buyers about which breed would suit them and think Barack Obama would find some very helpful hints and tips by coming along to our event, before making this important decision.

“We are very pleased to hear that the White House is a dog-friendly place and that the President is therefore supporting the concept of our Open for Dogs campaign, that aims to make more places accessible for dogs and dog owners.

“We think it is great that Mr Obama has not forgotten how to be a family man by offering to buy his children a puppy and no matter what breed he gets we know that the dog will be there throughout good times and bad, as his loyal and faithful companion.”

However, the Kennel Club might have missed the earlier news when Mr Obama promised that he would be adopting a rescue dog.

In a further blow to the UK’s pedigree dog breed registry, his daughter has expressed a particular desire that the family get a ‘Golden doodle’ – a cross breed dog not recognised by the Kennel Club.

Not sure how many experts will be on hand at Discover Dogs to advise the president on his mission to adopt a crossbreed but at least the thought was there!

What was the point in that apart from attempting to mock the KC?

  2. Ryan O'Meara says:

One could ask the same of the KC. What was the point of their PR other than to promote Discover Dogs on the back of an international event – especially when the president elect has already stated he intends to adopt a rescue dog and the only ‘breed’ mentioned to date is actually a cross breed. We don’t ALL have to swallow groundless PR exploits you know!

Now that made me laugh out loud.

Sadly it ties in with a growing attitude I’ve seen where many breeders proclaim to get a perfect pet one has to purchase from a breeder, they couldn’t be more wrong.

Well done and Congratulations to Mr Obama.

  4. Isn’t it all rather symbolic?

While the KC spew out marketing babble based on a flawed understanding of the facts, others (in this case the US First Family)are picking up the fallout from irresponsible suppliers and owners.

  5. Carol says:

AND – what will they do when the dog proves to bother the child’s allergies?????
Brillant – just like everything else out of their camp – no thought put in beforehand!

  6. Looks like some people are dissapointed that they finally chose a purebred dog. Why???
